Omega, official timekeeper of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The Olympic flame has arrived in Paris and we are just a few weeks away from the start of the 2024 Olympic Games. This event marks a new edition of the most important global sporting event. On this occasion, OMEGA will once again be the official timekeeper, recording every second of the various competitions.

Official timekeeper since 1932

OMEGA has been the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games 30 times since 1932. Its commitment also includes the Paralympic Games and the Youth Olympic Games. OMEGA’s relationship with the Olympic Games began in Los Angeles in 1932 with a single Swiss master watchmaker and 30 rattrapante chronographs.

Today, the timing team is staffed by professionals supported by up to 450 tonnes of specialised equipment, maintaining the same objective of providing accurate time measurement for each of its competitions.

Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place from 26 July to 11 August and will feature 32 sports with 329 events.

The slogan of these Games is “Open the Games“, highlighting an inclusive and accessible approach. For the first time in Olympic history, gender parity will be a reality with equal participation of men and women among the 10,500 athletes.

In addition, sports popular with the younger generation, such as breakdancing, will be introduced, along with urban sports such as skateboarding.

One of the biggest innovations will be the opening ceremony, which will not take place in a stadium, but on the Seine River, allowing more than half a million spectators to enjoy the spectacle along its banks. This open-air ceremony will be a unique visual event.

The Olympic Village has also been designed with sustainability in mind, using geothermal and natural cooling systems, and will become a modern neighbourhood after the Games. The organisation has managed to reduce polluting emissions by 47% during construction, underlining its commitment to the environment.

Another curiosity of this new edition of the Olympic Games is that the surfing competition will be held in Tahiti, the largest island of French Polynesia, located more than 15,000 kilometres from Paris. This will be the first time that an Olympic event will be held so far away from the host city.

Paris 2024 Olympic Games Commemorative Watch

To mark the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, OMEGA has launched the Speedmaster Chronoscope, a commemorative timepiece that stands out for both its design and its precision. The 43 mm series features four models in gold, black and white, all inspired by the Olympic Games. The models are available in stainless steel with an anodised aluminium bezel and in versions with a ceramic bezel and 18-carat steel bracelet. In addition, a special yellow gold alloy called Moonshine™ Gold is used.

Each watch features a silver-white dial with three dark grey timing scales, arranged in a 1940s-inspired “snail” design. These tachymeter, pulsometer and rangefinder scales allow for a variety of measurements, offering additional functionality to the wearer. Details such as blackened subdials, Arabic numerals in 18K Moonshine™ gold and leaf-shaped hands, also in Moonshine™ gold, make this design even more special.

The back of the Speedmaster Chronoscope features a commemorative caseback adorned with the Paris 2024 logo and the Olympic rings, reinforcing its connection with the sporting event. This timepiece incorporates the Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 9908/9909, certified by METAS for its high precision, performance and magnetic resistance.
