OMEGA’s latest Seamaster pays tribute to Emirates Team New Zealand

To mark the imminent hosting of the America’s Cup in Barcelona in 2024, OMEGA has created a tribute inspired by the logo of reigning champions Emirates Team New Zealand. The Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black ETNZ Edition, launched during OMEGA’s special event at the Vilanova Preliminary Regatta.

In one year’s time, the Auckland crew will be giving their all to keep the world’s oldest sporting trophy in Kiwi hands. To help them get the wind in their sails, OMEGA has taken inspiration from the sail in the ETNZ logo to create an exclusive collector’s item dedicated to the America’s Cup.

Mr Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA, spoke enthusiastically about the watch and the crew who inspired its creation. “As for our friends at Emirates Team New Zealand, a year goes by very quickly and the time has come to show our true colours. The 45.5 mm Seamaster Planet Ocean combines the deepest black with the turquoise of the Emirates Team New Zealand logo.

Complementing the black ceramic case is a unidirectional brushed black ceramic bezel, with a white enamel immersion scale and a triangle-framed dot at 12 o’clock, featuring white Super-LumiNova to emit a green glow in the dark.

On the matt ceramic dial, OMEGA has included a compliment to the pre-race protocol with a COUNTDOWN INDICATOR at 3 o’clock, complete with START flag. The indicator hand and subdial ring are turquoise like the Emirates Team New Zealand logo, along with the minute scale, the number 12 and the seconds hand with the counterweight of the America’s Cup trophy. OMEGA has also included the colour on the brushed black ceramic push-piece rings, the “He” symbol on the helium escape valve and the OMEGA logo on the crown.

As a tribute to the Kiwi crew, the NAIAD LOCK case back features an Emirates Team New Zealand logo with turquoise fern and white lettering. The movement of the watch is the OMEGA Master Chronometer calibre 9900.

OMEGA presents the watch on a structured black and turquoise rubber strap with turquoise stitching and a black ceramic clasp and offers three ways to change the style: an additional rubber strap and two NATO straps, all in complementary colours.

To keep the watch safe and dry while on land, there is a special presentation case inspired by the Emirates Team New Zealand logo. In addition to manufacturing magnificent tribute watches, the Emirates Team New Zealand sponsor since 1995 will provide precision timekeeping. The 37th edition of the world famous race will mark the fourth time OMEGA has acted as Official Timekeeper. It has previously timed the America’s Cup in 2000, 2003 and 2021.
