Breitling Superocean

Launched in 1957, the Breitling Superocean collection has established itself as a benchmark in the world of diving watches, originally designed to meet the demands of professional divers. Over the years, this collection has evolved, adapting to the needs of water sports enthusiasts, and remains one of the most respected watches in underwater watchmaking.

One of the most impressive features of the Superocean is its water resistance, with models that can be submerged to 2,000 metres. Some of these watches are equipped with a helium escape valve, which allows the gas accumulated during deep dives to be released, thus protecting the watch from damage and ensuring its durability in extreme conditions.

The precision and reliability of the Superocean watches are guaranteed by their automatic movements, all certified by the COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres). The collection features two main calibres, the Breitling 17 and the Breitling 10. The Breitling 17 calibre, found in most of the models, offers a power reserve of approximately 38 hours and has 26 jewels. The Breitling 10 calibre, found in the Super Diver models, provides a power reserve of 42 hours and uses 25 jewels. In terms of materials, the Superocean collection is distinguished by the diversity and strength of its components. The watch cases are available in stainless steel, titanium in the Super Diver models and bronze, materials selected for their ability to resist corrosion in marine environments. Some models combine stainless steel with 18K red gold, while others are entirely made of 18K red gold, giving them a touch of exclusivity.

The bezel, a key feature on any diver’s watch, varies from model to model. Most watches in the Superocean collection have a unidirectional, serrated bezel, ideal for safely measuring dive time. On the larger models, such as the 46 mm models, some watches have a bi-directional bezel with a ratchet system. On Super Diver models, the bezel is screwed on and has two seals for greater safety during deep-sea use.

Superocean watches are available in a variety of case sizes, ranging from 36 mm to 46 mm, allowing wearers to choose the model that best suits their style and preference. Straps also vary, with options in rubber, stainless steel and titanium, the latter on the Super Diver models, providing comfort and resistance in any situation.
