Bulgari History

Bulgari’s journey begins with the visionary Greek goldsmith Sotirios Voulgaris, who established his first workshop in his hometown in the mid-19th century. Remarkably, the original shop still stands today as a testament to the brand’s enduring legacy.

Sotirios Voulgaris had two dedicated sons, Costantino and Giorgio, who played a key role in supporting their father’s ambitions. In 1932, they took over the reins of their father’s company. In 1905, the iconic Bulgari boutique was born at 10 Via Condotti. In the 1980s, the founder’s grandson revolutionised the business model and transformed it into a global brand. The family retained ownership until 2011, when Bulgari became part of the well-known French luxury conglomerate Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH).

Bulgari’s founder, Sotirios Voulgaris, whose Greek heritage is celebrated, adopted the Italianised version of his name, Sotirio Bulgari. This unique spelling, with the letter U represented as V, gave rise to the iconic name Bvlgari, reflecting the historic Latin alphabet.
