The Pilot’s Watches collection from IWC are distinguished by the technical precision and robustness that have characterised the Swiss brand since its first foray into the world of aviation in the 1930s. One of the most iconic elements of the IWC Pilot’s Watches collection is the conical crown, whose history dates back to the early days of aviation. At that time, pilots operated in unpressurised and unheated cockpits, requiring thick gloves and heavy flight suits. Oversized crowns made it possible to adjust and wind the watches without removing gloves, a feature that IWC has preserved in its Big Pilot’s Watch, thus maintaining a connection with its historical heritage. IWC’s Pilot collection offers a range of case materials, from traditional stainless steel to more innovative options such as Ceratanium®, an IWC-exclusive composite that combines the lightness of titanium with the hardness of ceramic. Other materials available include titanium, ceramic, bronze and various types of gold, such as Armor Gold® and classic yellow and white. These materials, together with a carefully executed design, result in a variety of diameters ranging from 36 mm to 46.5 mm, and heights between 10.4 mm and 16.5 mm, making it possible to choose a model to suit different size and comfort preferences.

In terms of engineering, IWC Pilot’s Watches are equipped with in-house movements, calibres such as 32111, 52616, 82100 and 69385. These self-winding movements offer a power reserve ranging from 46 to 168 hours, depending on the model, ensuring that the watch maintains constant precision over long periods without the need for frequent adjustment. The movements operate at a standard frequency of 28,800 VPH (4 Hz), guaranteeing high stability and precision in time measurement.

The complexity of these watches also extends to the additional functions they offer. From date and day of the week indications, to more advanced complications such as the perpetual calendar with moon phases, the Worldtimer function for time zone management, and the tourbillon, each model is designed to satisfy both the functional and aesthetic needs of the most demanding collectors. The inclusion of a small seconds hand with stop device, as well as chronograph functions for measuring hours, minutes and seconds, underline the versatility of the collection.

IWC’s Pilot’s Watches also stand out for their robust construction and ruggedness, with soft-iron inner cases that provide anti-magnetic protection in some models. The domed sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating on both sides are resistant to pressure variations, which reinforces the watches’ ability to withstand extreme conditions, whether in the air or on the ground. In addition, most models feature screw-down crowns and water-resistance ranging from 6.0 to 10.0 bar, equivalent to a water resistance of 60 to 100 metres.

In terms of exclusivity, IWC has launched several limited editions within its Pilot’s Watches collection, some of which are produced in very small quantities, from 1,500 pieces to as few as 30, adding to the appeal for luxury watch collectors.
